Shalmali Kholgade is an Indian playback vocalist best known for her work in Hindi films. She has sung in a variety of Indian languages, including Marathi, Bengali, Telugu, and Tamil, in addition to Hindi. She has won one Filmfare Award out of two nominations for her singing career and has been recognized for her vocal style.
Shalmali began performing at the age of 16 and has taken music lessons from her mother, Uma Kholgade, an Indian classical singer and theatre star since she was eight years old. She went on to study music with Shubhada Paradkar and was recently admitted into the Los Angeles College of Music for the April semester, but she decided not to attend owing to her recording commitments. Last year, Shalmali paid a two-hour tribute to Amy Winehouse, one of her favorite singers, at Blue Frog in Mumbai, which was well-attended.
